Resident of Crimea. On October 12, 2016, he was detained after a search, taken into custody on charges related to his alleged involvement in the Islamist party "Hizb ut-Tahrir", unrelated to terrorism. On June 18, 2019, he was sentenced to 17 years in a strict regime colony. On December, 24, the court of appeal reduced the sentence by six months. In March 2020, immediately after his arrival at the colony, Abdullaev was sent to a punitive isolation cell. He was sent to the punitive isolation centre several times after that, which took a toll on his health and he was suspected of having tuberculosis. In November 2024, it was reported that Abdullaev had lost hearing in one ear. In August 2025, Abdullaev said that he was forced to stage a major disciplinary infraction after a directive targeting him came down from the Federal Penitentiary Service of Bashkortostan (he was in a colony on the territory of the republic) and needed to be sent to a single cell-type facility for several months.
